To enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. This is the mission of the Boys and Girls Club of the Wisconsin Rapids area.
Our “Club” and its four sites utilize a Youth Development Strategy that is vital in promoting and enhancing a sense of belonging, competence, usefulness, and power and influence. We have the Baker Drive site on the East side of Wisconsin Rapids, the Mead Elementary School site on the West side of Wisconsin Rapids, the Port Edwards Elementary School site and the Nekoosa site.
Devoted and caring staff provides guidance and direction through programs that instill attributes that can be applied throughout or members’ lives. These programs provide knowledge and insight into areas such as Character and Leadership Development, Education and Career Development, Health and Life Skills, The Arts, and Sports, Fitness, and Recreation. Members may receive help on homework through our “Power Hour” program. They will take part in making neat arts and crafts and will enjoy the many fun and exciting gym games that are offered such as dodge ball, kickball, football and basketball. Our staff is constantly thinking of new and creative ideas to insure that not only are our programs successful but most importantly fun and safe.
Our Club is a non-profit organization with membership fees of ten dollars per member or twenty five dollars for families of three or more and we offer financial assistance for membership fees upon request. Membership is valid for one full year and is open to youth ages six to eighteen, regardless of race, religion and ethnic background. We provide a safe and positive atmosphere and strive to see that our members develop Positive Self Identity, Health and Well Being, Positive Values, Commitment to Learning, Social Competency and Community and Civic Involvement.
The backs of our Club’s memberships cards display “The Boys and Girls Club Code” which is as follows: I WILL be respectful of staff, equipment, and other members; I WILL use polite language; I WILL walk unless in the Physical Education Area; I WILL talk to a staff person if I have a question or a problem; and I WILL remember the “golden rule” to treat others as I would like to be treated. Out staff and members take pride in working as a team and communicating so that the above is accomplished.
The Boys and Girls Club of the Wisconsin Rapids Area is truly an incredible organization. Through our many and diverse programs, our welcome environment and our dedicated staff, our Club is one hundred percent committed to the lives and success of our members. This is truly THE POSITIVE PLACE FOR KIDS!!!
