Riverview Hospital Association was organized by community leaders in 1912 to operate a local hospital and otherwise fill the health care needs of Wisconsin Rapids, South Wood County and the surrounding areas. Riverview Hospital Association today remains one of the few independent, community-owned and operated health care providers in Wisconsin. The Riverview Hospital Association owns and operates: Riverview Hospital, established in 1912 and expanded many times over the years. The current hospital building opened at 410 Dewey Street, Wisconsin Rapids, in 1967, with additions in 1976, 1983, 1994, 2002, 2003 and a new medical-surgical inpatient wing in 2009. Riverview Hospital is highly regarded for its Family Birthplace, its comprehensive diagnostic imaging and lab services, its high-caliber nursing staff, and many other features that go far beyond what is typically found in a community hospital. The Riverview Rehabilitation Center and Riverview's Diabetes and Nutrition Center are currently located in Riverview's Bethke Building at 1041 Hill Street, a block east of the hospital. Riverview Family Clinic, organized in 1996 to fill a community need for primary medical care in the physician office setting. With four specialists in family practice and four in internal medicine, Riverview Family Clinic includes offices in Wisconsin Rapids (4th Floor, Riverview East Medical Building), Nekoosa (Riverview Family Clinic Nekoosa) and the Rome-Lakes area in northern Adams County (Lakes Area Medical Center). University of Wisconsin Cancer Center Riverview, opened in 2003 as a satellite of the world-renowned UW Comprehensive Cancer Center, Madison. UW Cancer Center Riverview provides a full range of cancer services and two of the top cancer physicians anywhere, medical oncologist Dr. Ron Kirschling and radiation oncologist Dr. James Welsh. A state-of-the-art helical tomotherapy program features the unmatched experience and innovation of Dr. Welsh, one of the world's leading researchers in applications of radiation therapy for breast, brain, prostate and many other cancers. Patients have access to consultations and resources through the UW Comprehensive Cancer Center, the only comprehensive cancer center in Wisconsin as designated by the National Cancer Institute.
